Yes, I have a few guilty pleasures. Something you just love, even though it may be a bit out of character for you. Mine is The Real Housewives of Orange County. Yes it is true, my secret is out. What brought them to my attention was the after holiday television viewing options, and the fact that I grew up in Orange County, California. Yes, I remember sitting on my backyard center block fence watching the Disneyland fireworks on summer nights. I remember going to the Disneyland Hotel when there was nothing to do and had no money, to watch the water show for free and roam the shops. Those days are long gone for me, as the exterior areas of the Disneyland Hotel were remodeled and now if you want to roam you go to Downtown Disney and pay a parking fee.
Back to the Housewives, yes they are absolutely sinful, and very entertaining. Most of these Orange County Cali girls are not from California at all, but transplanted there, managed to marry some rich guy who can’t see past their boob jobs to notice how awful they treat people. I mean wouldn’t an intelligent man who is able to produce such high incomes be able to see that while they are working hard, their wife is working hard to keep them broke and acts like a spoiled, entitled teen? I guess the boobs blinded them, leaving some brain damage along the way.
Here is my basic break down of the characters, and yes, I am entitled to my own opinion:
-Jenna – When she was a regular she stayed out of most of the fighting by biting her tongue. The only time I remember her saying something I questioned was when she told some new cast members not to upset ‘Mama Bear’. She meant Vicki. Jenna was discreet about her divorce, and besides some lacking parenting skills, which is pretty normal, I think she handled herself very well.
-Vicki – Selfish, self absorbed, refuses to take responsibility for her actions. Her life is so out of balance, no wonder she has medical issues and is getting a divorce. She also is a bad judge of character.
-Tamara – Lies, manipulates, not trustworthy. Watch your back Vicki. Hope her new guy watches the show so he knows what he is getting into. Opps, probably not, he may already be suffering from boob blindness.
-Gretchen- I like her the best. Not only is she really pretty, but she has the brains the rest of the girls past on years ago. She is honest and tries to understand the others, but once she knows she can’t trust them she take precautionary action. Yes, she makes mistakes, and did some things that are regrettable when grieving the loss of the guy she planned to marry, but it happens. Get over it.
-Peggy- Just say no to anymore plastic surgery! Stay out of things!
-Alexis- Sorry honey, you graduated high school a long time ago. Your husband has a past just like you do, move on.
-Slade Smiley – Sorry Slade, I do not like your name combo (first and last name together) I think your parents made you sound slimmy. That being said, I think Slade is a very intelligent guy. Right now he looks a little depressed due to his loss of income. The signs are there, he is simply letting himself go. I would love to coach Slade, I think he could really go places regardless of the economy and the real estate market. Deep down, I think he is a good guy.
So there you have it. My guilty pleasure and my character breakdown. Yep, I am a real girl after all. I love the OC, hope to move back soon.
