In my last blog video I brought up the topic of Meditation just a little bit and I promised I would talk about it later. So it only seemed fair that in this video I tell you a little bit about Meditation, a little bit about the techniques, a little bit about what you can expect and actually what Meditation is.

I believe in the simplest form of Meditation. Meditation is free. You don’t need to buy a chant cd. You don’t need any kind of special clothing or any kind of furniture or anything like that. All Meditation is, is sitting somewhere, you can have your palms up, that would be great, just focusing on your normal breathing for about 15 minutes. The only thing you really need is a floor, and a timer. The timer could be a timer from your kitchen, an egg timer. It doesn’t have to be technical in any way. You can even use the timer on your cell phone or iPhone. It’s giving you the gift of 15 minutes just focusing on your regular breathing.

Personally, I would rather sit in a chair than on the floor, but if you don’t have a chair available to you or you are traveling so you don’t have a favorite chair or a situation like that, all you really need is the floor, a timer and to be able to close your eyes in a quiet, private place and focus on your breathing. Meditation only really takes 15 minutes a day. Most people are resistant to that because they do not want to stop and be still for 15 minutes a day, but it is your life and you can give yourself 15 minutes. You deserve 15 minutes a day for you.

One of the issues when people start meditating is when they slow down, sit down, have a timer on and close their eyes, they have a hard time focusing. For many what happens is all the little things that are in their minds that they use to kick themselves for, the memories of bad decisions, the bills they forgot to pay, choices that they made that they wish they hadn’t made and just all the little things that they kick themselves for just seem to float up in their mind. They find the experience a little unpleasant the first couple of times. That is okay. It happens to all of us. As you get used to practicing meditation and calming your mind those things will start to go away and you won’t being having that experience any more.

What happens is your mind will sometimes wander during that 15 minutes and that’s okay. When you catch yourself with your mind wandering, just focus on your breathing and continue meditating for 15 minutes. You do not need to stop and reset the timer, you just need to continue, and when you gain your focus back on your breathing, going forward until the timer goes off. The next time it will be a little bit easier for you to focus on your breathing.

It is okay for ideas to come to your mind, or thoughts to come to your mind. What meditation is supposed to do is give you clarity about you and your life. Things are supposed to come to you. It is about focusing on your breathing, calming your mind and having clarity. Once the timer goes off you’re done and for some people feel that they are off the hook.

The next day regardless of what happened, do it again. Try to do it the same time every day. After a couple of weeks, if you do it consistently, every day, Monday through Sunday, and then start over again the following Monday, you will be able to keep that focus, you will have clarity, your mind will calm down and you will start to be able to solve some of the things that have been rolling around in your mind that you have not been able to solve before. You will have more clarity about your life and you will have more focus ability.

Meditation also helps you to be happier. I know that someone wrote a book about that. It helps you to be happier because you are calmer. It is a great help for people who suffer from anxiety. The calming of the mind makes that anxiety calm down. It is also great for all kinds of other issues as well.

I highly recommend that you try the meditation. It is very simple. You sit on the floor, on a piece of furniture, on a chair, palms up. They can be up on the arms of the chair. They can be on your thighs. Palms up and just focus on your breathing, using a timer for just 15 minutes a day. After you’ve got that focus for 15 minutes a day, if you want to increase the time that is totally up to you. Know that most people are resistant to meditate and that is normal. It is just a matter of just doing it and getting into the habit of doing it. It will make your life so much better and you will be happier.
